FISCO IR Commences the Verification Process for a Project involving Preparation and Distribution of Reports Focused on Corporate ESG Information

FISCO IR Ltd. today announced that it has commenced the verification process for a project involving preparation and distribution of reports focused on corporate ESG information, with a particular emphasis on the Environment (the “E” component of ESG).

The Ministry of the Environment is currently advancing the verification and implementation of the “Environmental Reporting Platform Development Pilot Project” ( for the purpose of facilitating more active dialogue between companies, investors and other parties. FISCO IR will use the registered information (including ESG information) of companies participating in the project to prepare research reports that capture the essence of this information from the perspectives of investors. FISCO IR plans to publish the reports via websites and other media and to distribute them over networks owned by FISCO Ltd. to both institutional and individual investors in Japan and abroad. (Disclosure and distribution of information will be limited only to the information of companies that have agreed to this initiative.)

FISCO IR will disclose and distribute research reports that capture the essence of registered information pertaining to the ESG activities of Japanese companies. In doing so, FISCO IR will help to facilitate dialogue concerning ESG information and enhance the quality of information to be disclosed by companies.

In the course of implementing this project, FISCO IR will work in coordination with NTT DATA Corporation (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toshio Iwamoto, “NTT DATA”; Based on the results of the verification process for this project and related issues, FISCO IR will also support the study of a business model for a non-financial information platform that will contribute to investment decision-making processes that take into account the ESG information of domestic companies.

This project is the first of its kind to be undertaken in Japan. FISCO IR expects that the project will aid decision-making in the investment processes of institutional and individual investors, along with helping to form appropriate matching between domestic companies and institutional and individual investors.

The scope of the reports is to be expanded to all listed companies from April in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018. Initially, the report coverage will be centered on Japan’s leading blue-chip stocks. While referring to the opinions of institutional investors and experts in Japan and abroad, FISCO IR aims to rapidly position the reports as a source of valuable content that resolves the disparity in ESG information between companies and investors.

By upgrading and expanding the research reports that will be produced by this project, FISCO IR will help to enhance the quality of ESG information disclosed by listed companies. In order to contribute to the development of Japan’s financial and capital markets, FISCO IR aims to position its research reports as an essential analytical tool used by long-term investors when assessing corporate value.
