FISCO IR to Participate in the Ministry of the Environment's “FY2017 Environmental Reporting Platform Development Pilot Project”

FISCO IR Ltd. announced today that it will participate in the Ministry of the Environment's “FY2017 Environmental Reporting Platform Development Pilot Project,” and take part in promoting dialogue with companies and investors using ESG information in Japan.

The Ministry of the Environment aims to create a society where funds flow appropriately as investors and others properly evaluate companies that take a proactive stance on environmental activities. To this end, since fiscal 2013 the ministry has been running a pilot project for full-scale implementation of an ESG Dialogue Platform, where companies and investors will come together for real dialogue centered on environmental information. The project is expected to feature in plans for global warming countermeasures and Future Investment Strategy 2017 as a forum for dialogue between Japanese companies and investors. The ministry plans to proactively conduct the pilot project with clear reference to efforts to encourage, through these measures, the wider adoption and development of information provision including disclosures, dialogue and investment methods that take into account ESG (environment, social, governance) elements and contribute to medium-to long-term improvements in corporate value.

The project has already received some recognition for the level of completion of the systems (tools) it had produced by 2016. In fiscal 2017, the project is preparing a “Step Up Program” to support ESG initiatives for a wide range of users, ranging from those about to start ESG investment to those already involved. The program will include seminars by a team of national experts on ESG.
To mark the start of the project for fiscal 2017, an ESG Dialogue Platform Kick-Off Conference will be held. Participants will receive an explanation of the project as well as a briefing on the latest trends in ESG investment.

FISCO IR Ltd. Director and COO Hiroki Nakagawa will actively consult and cooperate with the project as a member of the Working Group for Promoting Investor Dialogue between Business Managers and Investors, which has used the platform.

Policy Positioning of the Project

  • The Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures (formulated by the Cabinet in May 2016) stipulated that the Japanese government will take steps to establish a platform for information disclosure utilizing ICT and to promote ESG investment.
  • In Future Strategy 2017 No. 2 “Concrete Policy,” approved by the Cabinet in June 2017, the government plans to conduct a verification of an “Environmental Reporting Platform Development Pilot Project,” as a forum for dialogue between companies and investors.
